Fantasy Author Coming to Your Door?

Vermont Fantasy Author Scot R. Stone believes the best way to
receive is to give. His newest endeavor in his latest marketing campaign
has him driving around cities to drop off signed and dated copies of his
novels on people’s doorsteps. He purposely visits different
neighborhoods to deliver his surprise packages in order to create â
€œclusters of fansâ€ that will spread the word about his series.
   â€œIt’s a great way to give and uplift a person’s day,â€
Stone says. “I feel like Santa Claus, only I don’t have to
scramble around on roofs and drop down chimneys to give out the
presents. Stone added that he travels a lot to do book signings and
seminars, but always brainstorms and looks outside the box to come up
with new promotional techniques. “You never know when youâ
€™re going to hit on something that will propel yourself farther than
you could’ve ever dreamed. I’m always thankful for the
opportunities I’ve been given, and this is a way I’ve come up
with to give something back. In return, I hope it will create a strong
enough buzz that will ensure I will be writing for many years to come.
Stone admits he wishes he could hang around to see every personâ
€™s reaction when he or she open the door to make the discovery. â
€œYou can’t have it all, but that’s where my imagination can
fill in the rest.
Geographically, Stone realizes can only drive so many miles in a day
to deliver his signed books to a new destination—that is, if he wants to
make it back home in time for dinner. So, to make up for that limitation,
he plans on randomly picking cities across the United States to send a
handful of books to each new town he decides on. “It’s like
throwing darts at a board. It’s really a lot of fun, and it doesn’t
matter if the person who receives my books is a fan of fantasy or not.
Most likely the individual will know someone who is, and pass the
books on to them to enjoy.
This is not the first time in Stone’s career that he’s given
away free books. Anytime he’s been asked to do a presentation at a
school, he has all the students in the class he’s presenting to drop
their names in a hat. One lucky name is drawn to receive a signed copy
of one of his books. “The students go nuts over that. I just love doing
it. He waits until the end of his presentation, however, to draw the
name.
