It makes me wonder how many famous authors give back. And I'm not just talking about to their communities. If I was as famous as King or Patterson, or someone on that same level, I would start up my own publishing house, and give only newer authors a chance to make it in the marketplace. The authors at this level have so much money flowing into their bank that they could afford to do something like this. Rowling alone made $300 million in 2008 alone. These famous authors know how hard it is to make it in this business, and therefore could really help other authors find success. Rowling, again for example, could start Rowling publishing, and give new authors in science fiction and fantasy a good start by just having her name on their products. She doesn't have to run the house, only fund it. I bet those authors would sell a lot of books!
